When I was a teenage girl growing up in the 00s, I was faced with a barrage of societal messages about body image and what it meant to be "beautiful". As a result, I battled with deep self-esteem and body-confidence issues.
I wanted to find something that would give me the toned arms, flat stomach and tiny frame our culture continuously told me was necessary to be successful in this world.
So at the young age of 14, I began practicing Yogalates DVDs at home in my bedroom!
When I started attending public Yoga classes at University, my intention for showing up on my mat each week was still rooted in a yearning for the physical appearance I thought I needed in order to be accepted and loved in this life.
I had thought a lot about becoming a Yoga teacher myself one day, but my lack of body-confidence and westernised view of what it meant to be "good at yoga" lead me to believe that it was not something I would succeed in.
Thankfully, my teacher told me that being a brilliant Yoga teacher had little to do with how many poses you could achieve and what you looked like.
So in 2010, I found myself in Australia’s beautiful Byron Bay, studying my Level 2 Teacher Training in Hatha Yoga.

Even though I had delved more deeply in to the philosophy of Yoga and began to understand that it was not just about a series of poses/stretches that would help me stay slim, I still held a firm belief that you had to look a certain way to teach Yoga. Little did I know that this belief would actually become the antithesis of my teaching later in life!
In 2016 I opened up my Business - Aimee Hill Massage Therapy & Yoga.
I strived to teach that self-love and acceptance were far more important than being able to achieve any particular pose, even though I still didn't quite fully buy into it myself.
After the birth of my babies in 2020 and 2023, I underwent a huge transformational shift. I was diagnosed with mild postnatal depression and anxiety, and this took me on a journey of uncovering and understanding myself on an even deeper level.
From this new perspective as a Mummy, I called upon my Yoga in a way I never had done before.
Now, when I practice and teach Yoga, I come from a place that is grounded in self-enquiry, and encourages myself and others to dig-deeper into the inner-workings of our minds.
It is now my absolute passion help people write and re-write their own stories in a way that makes their life happier and more easeful. I love to help others see things in a different light, and to question everything they think they know about themselves, their values and beliefs, and to uncover their true inner-wisdom.
I truly believe in the power of Yoga to heal us, and although I know that Yoga is still viewed very much as a physical practice in our culture, it is my mission to help people realise what Yoga is able to do for them on a mental and emotional level too. It is so important to me that my Yoga teachings are fun, educational, inspirational, and remind everyone that we are all here together trying to navigate this thing called life.
For me, Yoga is about community, connection and the understanding that our physical bodies are merely a vessel for us to move through this life on Earth.
I am forever a student of this incredible practice, and I love learning more as life unfolds - and just like life, my Yoga practice and teaching will forever evolve and will always meet us where we are in that particular moment.
You are loved, you are beautiful and you are enough!
